The present work is a version of the 1908 work of the same title (137 x 99 cm.) in the collection of Waverley Borough Council, Godalming, which is illustrated in Roger Langley's book Walter Langley, Pioneer of the Newlyn Art Colony (Bristol 1997), p. 136.
The alleyway used for the present lot also appears in a number of other compositions, such as At Polperro (1909), illustrated as above, p.140.
