Howard Neville foundedhis antiques business in 1967 and for the last forty years hass pecialised in early European works of art, Gothic sculpture, ivories, early religious artefacts and ecclesiastical textiles. For many years
his firm was run from the Antique Hypermarket in London, until the
1980's when the firm transferred to Grays Antiques Market and was run in
conjunction with another shop in Tunbridge Wells. The contents of these
premises together with other selected pieces from his own collection are
now to be sold at Bonhams in this specialist sale.
As well as early works of art and sculpture, the sale includes an
important collection of ecclesiastical embroideries with examples dating
back from the 14th to the 17th centuries including rare orpheries,
chasubles, copes and chalice veils. Other highlights of the collection
include a 15th century Nottingham alabaster depicting the Resurrection,
a pair of German 16th century carved walnut figures of God the Father
and the Virgin and a small collection of 15th and 16th century silver
gilt miniature reliquary boxes.
We are now selecting other entries to be included in this sale and are
seeking Medieval and Renaissance carved wood, alabaster and limestone
sculpture, 16th and 17th century bronzes, and early ecclesiastical
