For many collectors, French furniture represents the sine qua non of the
craft. As the dominant power in Europe from the 17th to 19th centuries,
France attracted the finest cabinet makers who labored to supply the nobility
and moneyed classes with the sumptuous works of art typical of the period.
Makers of interest recently sold at auction include: Jules Allard, Pierre
Bara, Guillaume Beneman, Laurent-Charles Birclet, André-Charles Boulle,
Pehr Gustaf Bylander, Carel, Chapuis, Antoine Criaerd, Crozet, Henry Dasson,

Hazart, Jansen, Aubert & Klaftenberger, Krieger, François Linke, Millet,
