This season's exceptional sale of Fine Chinese Art at Bonhams, held in our New Bond Street premises on 5 November 2009, sold 78% by lot and 94% by value, netting a total of just over £5 million. A selection of twenty archaic and early bronzes from the collection of Wing Commander Lord Cunliffe, acquired in London in the 1940s and 1950s, sold for almost £1 million, with an Early Western Zhou gui selling for £490,400. Other sale highlights included a rare cloisonné and champlevé enamel figure of a Guanyin, sold for £305,600; an Imperial Guangxu white jade seal, sold for £322,400; a rare pair of archaistic Qianlong mark and period jue vessels, sold for £168,000; and a rare zitan 'dragon' table, sold for £120,000.
With auction prices at record levels in many cases, we will be pleased to provide no-obligation auction estimates for Chinese or Southeast Asian art you may consider consigning for our next international London auction on in 2010.
Please contact the department for further information about buying and selling at Bonhams.
