The market for Orientalist and Middle Eastern pictures and works of art has never been stronger. Bonhams fine art auction house established since 1793, achieved an encouraging 78% sale of rare Orientalist Paintings and Works of Art – the first of its kind in the region – at an auction on 11 May in Dubai at The One & Only Royal Mirage hotel. Bonhams' sales in Dubai continue to attract new collectors from North Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia. As the only auction house to hold dedicated Orientalist sales in Dubai, Bonhams shows success and growth in the category.

Highlights from the sale included the exceptional and rare painting by Rudolph Swoboda The Carpet Seller (lot 28), which achieved $ 826,000. A highly evocative image of bartering at the streets of Cairo, the work was painted in 1895 at the peak of the artist’s powers.

Our superior knowledge of the Orientalist art market and our commitment to maintaining strong relationships with important collectors, as well as developing a greater presence for Bonhams in Dubai, sets us apart from our competitors. If you have Orientalist art that you would like to sell at auction, please do not hesitate to contact us.
