Bonhams Launch `Period Design Sales' with the Support of Leading British Designers
http://www.bonhams.com/furniture
Next month Bonhams Furniture Department will launch a new
monthly sale titled `Period Design' which aims to inspire both home
decorators and professional designers to be creative. The sale will
focus on the best of design with each sale catalogue featuring an
interview by a top interior designer talking about current trends and
fashions. They will also hand select a number of items from the sale
that have caught their eye to discuss, explaining why it interests
them. It might be something that forms the jumping off point for the
styling of a room or simply an item that adds charm and individual
style. This new approach from Bonhams to its furniture sales is
driven by the wish to be far more user friendly while adding
expertise and excitement.
The first 'Period Design' sale includes a wonderful selection of
18th, 19th and early 20th century English and Continental furniture,
works of art, sculpture, chandeliers, chimneypieces, carpets and
rugs. Practical, decorative or academically interesting items will
all be found in this sale with estimates ranging from £200-12,000,
offering something for the collector as well as the connoisseur.
Issue One, features Catherine Connolly from Northwick Design, which
has been operating since 1985.
The company has recently been involved in projects in London,
Hampshire, Surrey, East Sussex, Maryland USA, Dublin, Belfast and
Warsaw. In May 2004, a Northwick Design project, a large country
house in Hampshire (main house over 16,000 sq ft) was the cover
feature in House and Garden and in November 2004 the same magazine
included a profile of the consultancy.
NOTES FOR EDITORS
Bonhams, founded in 1793, is one of the world's oldest and largest auctioneers of fine art and antiques. The present company was formed by the merger in November 2001 of Bonhams & Brooks and Phillips Son and Neale UK. In August 2002, the company acquired Butterfields, the principal firm of auctioneers on the West Coast of America and in August 2003, Goodmans, a leading Australian fine art and antiques auctioneer with salerooms in Sydney, joined the Bonhams Group of Companies. Today, Bonhams offers more sales than any of its rivals, through two major salerooms in London: New Bond Street, and Knightsbridge, and a further seven throughout the UK. Sales are also held in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Boston in the USA; and Switzerland, France, Monaco, Australia, Hong Kong and Dubai. Bonhams has a worldwide network of offices and regional representatives in 25 countries offering sales advice and valuation services in 57 specialist areas.
