The art of Indigenous Australians is an extraordinarily diverse and complex field that has experienced a phenomenal Renaissance in recent decades that began in the latter half of the 20th century. Bonhams Aboriginal Art auctions offer some of the most exceptional museum-quality paintings and sculptures dating from the 19th century to the present, as well as artefacts dating from as early as the 18th century.
The Aboriginal Art department maintains a strong ethical stance on all works consigned to auction ensuring that each one is supported by excellent provenance and that artworks from artists that are represented by art centres have originated from there.
Aboriginal Art auctions are held in the Spring and Autumn in Sydney. Our catalogues are distributed worldwide to collectors, dealers and institutions. A preview exhibition precedes our auctions where clients can take the opportunity to view all items first-hand and to speak with the specialists.
