Lot Details
Imilac Meteorite — Bedazzling Partial Slice with Extraterrestrial Gemstones
PAL – Pallasite
Atacama Desert, Chile

Comprising less than 1% of all meteorites, pallasites are the most dazzling of all. Pallasitic meteorites originate from the mantle/core boundary of what was a a planetary body that broke apart during the formation of our solar system. The olivine and peridot crystals seen here are the result of small chunks of stony mantle becoming suspended in the molten nickel-iron of the core and then crystallizing during a long cooling process in the vacuum of interplanetary space. Pallasites are considered among the most beautiful extraterrestrial substance known and this is a select partial slice with one edge of fusion crust. Measuring 62 x 60 x 4mm (2.25 x 2.25 x 0.15 inches) and x 5.75 x 0.1 inches) and 66.24 grams.
