This brooch bears the maker's mark for Charles Holl, a jeweler whose workshop was known to produce important jewelry, gem-set boxes, and objects for leading jewelry houses such as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels. Charles Holl was a master setter, specializing in calibré-set mountings. Much of Holl's works employ luscious colored gemstones, mounted in intricate designs, requiring superior technical knowledge as illustrated in this brooch.
