The composition of the present work relates to C.R.W. Nevinson's Autumn Sunshine, a reproduction of which was published in Apollo magazine in November 1929. The image verso relates to a recurrent motif which first appears in the mezzotint Wind (1918), then in the watercolour Wind in the Treetops (circa 1927, Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery). An oil also titled Wind in the Trees was exhibited at the New English Art Club in 1929.
