1973 Osella PA2 / 2000 Sport Racing Sports-Prototype
Chassis no. 015
Vincenzo 'Enzo' Osella campaigned sports-racing cars for Abarth in the mid-1960s and grew his company to run as the Abarth-Osella team, which – in the early 1970s - became, in effect, the Abarth factory team. When Carlo Abarth sold his business to Fiat in 1971, Osella took over the sporting operations and established his own marque at Volpiano, near Turin.
Despite many wins in races and hillclimbs with his own version of the Abarth 2000 sportscar - notably with Arturo Merzario in the 1972 European 2-litre Championship of Makes - the sports-racing car market was always going to be relatively limited. Consequently, when Osella switched from using essentially Fiat-derived Abarth engines German BMW units he also diversified into Formula 2 single-seater competition. His designer Antonio Tomaini produced the Osella FA2 single-seater in 1974 in parallel with the PA2 sports-prototype as offered here.

This particular car – offered here with 4-cylinder 2-litre BMW M12 power unit installed as a rolling chassis - was preserved for many years within the Maranello Rosso Collection museum at Falciano, San Marino, in which it was displayed beneath the associated bodywork also offered with this Lot. The body panels do not, however, fit this particular chassis, while both are offered in generally good and well-preserved condition. As with all cars that we offer from long-term museum display we are unable to confirm the mechanical condition or completeness of such lots.
