In the 1970s and 1980s, the fact that Japan's motorcycle frame design lagged behind that of its engines meant that anyone wishing to exploit a motor's full potential had little option but to opt for a bespoke chassis. A number of specialists sprang up to satisfy this demand, at the very pinnacle of which was – and still is – the Italian firm of Bimota. As its nomenclature suggests, the KB2 was Bimota's second design intended for a Kawasaki engine, housing the Japanese manufacturer's 550cc four. The perimeter frame wrapping around the engine and steering head, and the swinging arm pivot coaxial with the gearbox sprocket are typical Bimota features of this period.

One of only 177 KB2s produced, this un-restored example was purchased by the current owner in July 1994 and since acquisition has been stored in his dry heated garage. It was in original condition when purchased and no changes have been made since. The odometer reading of 13,695 kilometres is genuine. Benefiting from engine re-commissioning undertaken by Bimota importer Paradise Motos of Paris, the machine is offered with Bimota's purchase invoice (frame and engine) and French Carte Grise.
