ELIZABETH II, QUEEN OF ENGLAND. B.1926.
Album containing 43 color and black-and-white White House Press photographs of the Arrival Ceremony for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh at The White House, July 7, 1976, each 8 x 10 inches, [Washington: the White House Photo Laboratory], laid down to album leaves, bound in gilt-stamped black leatherette, some soiling and scuffs.
Provenance: estate of John C. Shannon, Director of the White House Photo Laboratory.

Among the more important Bicentennial Celebrations of 1976 was the official state visit of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip to attend a State Dinner at The White House. The album records the President and Mrs. Ford welcoming the royal couple on the White House Lawn before being given a lunch and a tour of the interior of the home. The dinner is a gala affair with speeches, toasts, dancing and a performance by the singing duo Captain and Tennille. The next day the Queen and her husband attend National Cathedral and later a ceremony at the Smithsonian Institute accompanied by Vice President Nelson Rockefeller. Also tipped in are a White House press release, a program and two tickets to the event. Only two copies of this album were prepared, one for President Ford and this one (as a back-up should anything happen to the first).
