Robert Houdin, Paris, the movement numbered 124 AC
the arched rectangular dial with painted Roman numerals and matching pierced hands set within a bezel cast as a series of ribbon-tied reeds, mounted on a reeded column to a morocco leather-covered plinth base, the movement contained within the base and wound from below through a lacquered brass protective cover, now with replaced lever platform escapement 37cms (14.5ins) high.

Footnotes

  • For biographical information, see the following lot.

Houdin's sixth series was designed to fool those that had worked out the secret of his circular clocks. Contained within a rigid rectangular or arched frame, the method by which the two hands are moved forward is far from obvious.
