1978 Ferrari 400GT Automatic Sports Saloon
Chassis no. F101CL24705
Engine no. F101C000 00304

Launched at the 1976 Paris Salon and powered by a 4.8-litre four-cam V12, the 400GT reaffirmed Ferrari's determination to compete with the world's finest luxury sports saloons, a requirement that made the option of automatic transmission a necessity. The unit chosen - General Motors' three-speed Hydramatic - was widely regarded as the world's best, having been used by Cadillac and subsequently by Rolls-Royce and Jaguar among others. By the time production of the final '412' version ceased in 1989, Ferrari's finest 2+2 had been in production for a remarkable 17 years, though its exclusivity meant that there were seldom more than 200 sold in any one year.

This example's first registered owner from 1978 to 1980 was Ferrari Esercizio Fabbriche Automobili e Corse SpA (a company created in 1960 by Enzo Ferrari) and it is believed that it was given to Jody Scheckter, Formula 1 World Champion for Ferrari in 1979. However, there is no definitive proof that it was Scheckter's.

Acquired by the current owner in 2003, '24705' is un-restored part from a repaint in its original brown metallic livery, which was done some eight years ago. Last used approximately one year ago and described as in generally good condition, the car is offered with owner's manual, copies of various magazine articles, Italian Libretto, Certificato di Proprieta, old Foglio Complimentare, ASI Certificate and copies of all old Estratti Chronologici detailing the ownership history from new.
