1974 Puch 250cc Moto-Crosser Engine no. 2402003
1974 Puch 250cc Moto-Crosser
Engine no. 2402003
Although its two-stroke lightweights had been star performers in the ISDT since the end of WW2, Puch had largely ignored international moto-cross, only returning to the fray with new machines in 1973. There was official factory participation in the Austrian, Belgian and Swedish national championships, while at World Championship level the company entered its new 250cc moto-crossers for the experienced Uno Palm and youngster Harry Everts. The latter achieved some encouraging results in Puch's debut season and for 1974 was teamed with Herbert Schmitz. Everts finished 3rd in the 1974 World Championship and armed with an extensively revised machine went onto secure Puch's first world title the following year.
One of a limited production run intended for expert riders, this Puch moto-crosser was in a deplorable state when discovered in Belgium by the current vendor. It was subsequently sold to ex-factory rider Herbert Schmitz, who completely restored the machine using new-old-stock parts before selling it back to the vendor. The fuel tank has been signed by both Herbert Schmitz and Harry Everts.

Footnotes

  • Puch 250 cm3 Moto-Cross 1974
    Moteur n° 2402003
