Footnotes

  • Included with the lot are copies of Vivien Noakes' and Susan Hyman's books on Lear. Inserted in the former is a typed letter signed from Noakes commenting on photographs of the present pair "particularly fascinating in their naive charm... some of the drawings like this that I have come across were given to his students". Lear's early work, much influenced by is sister Ann, is illustrated by a drawing of an Owl, very similar to the present examples, in Hyman, p.13.
