Garsington Manor, near Oxford, was home to Lady Ottoline Morrell between 1914 and 1924. A society hostess and patron of the arts, she helped Spencer find a place to stay in the village of Garsington when he was invited to teach at Oxford by Sydney Carline.
Spencer's stay in Garsington meant he came in contact with many artists including the Bloomsbury set.
Spencer produced several paintings of Garsington and the surrounding countryside during the 1920s
