  • M.M. London Gazette 21.12.1944.

Prior to the successful attack on Lebisey on 8-7-1944 this N.C.O. went on two successful minefield recce patrols right up to within a few yards of the enemy positions, obtaining much valuable information. When the attack took place, the section which he commands was placed under the command of "C" Coy of the 2nd Warwicks. His task was to clear a route through known mined areas to the south edge of the Labisey Feature for tanks for the Staffordshire Yeomanry. In spite of a considerable number of casualties to "C" Coy from sniping, mortar and shell-fire, he pressed forward with his task showing great determination and excellent power of Leadership for a N.C.O. responsible for an independent job, and succeeded in getting a route through and information back to the tanks so that they were through to their objective by H plus 30. This task involved the removal of a number of mines and made up booby trap charges. After completing this task which resulted in successful consolidation of the right flank, he rallied his section, and having already found some booby traps, continued to search and clear buildings in the Company area of them, although this area was still infested with a number of the enemy. This N.C.O. is considerated to have shown excellent powers of leadership, courage and coolness under considerable fire, whilst entrusted with a separate tasks-away from his own sub-unit.
