With corresponding miniatures. The WW1 medals slightly later issue, otherwise very fine. (9)

    Air Vice-Marshal W.A.Opie joined RAF Cranwell as a Flight Cadet with B Squadron in 1921, he is appointed to a permanent commission on the 20th December 1922 as a Pilot with No.2 Squadron. He is promoted to Flying Officer on 20.6.1924. Pilot No.31 Squadron on 10.5.1925. Flight Lieutenant 12.12.1928. Attended Officers Engineering Course Home Aircraft Depot on 18.4.1929. Engineering Officer, No.1 School of Technical Training (Apprentices); Flight Commander No.13 Squadron 19.3.1934; Flight Commander No.5 Squadron 14.3.1935; Staff Officer, Deputy Directorate of Repair and Maintenance 21 Sep 1935; Squadron Leader 1.12.1936; Attended RAF Staff College 19.1.1937; Officer Commanding (Designate) No.2 Squadron 1.1.1938; Officer Commanding No.18 Squadron 6.5.1939;(T) Wing Commander 1.1.1940; Trasferred to Technical Branch 24.4.1940; Engineer Staff Officer, HQ Bomber Command 1.9.1940; Deputy Director of Repair and Maintenance 1941; Wing Commander 14.4.1942 [1.1.1940].     The lot comes with his two logbooks where he starts flight training in May 1923 and is involved in a crash landing on the 4th October 1923, a further forced landing whilst delivering a machine on the 17th March 1924, another forced landing in Lahore on the 19th June 1925. He serves out in Quetta in 1929, before returning to Henlow. His flying career ends by the end of 1933 having flown 916 hours.
