Baltic 1854-55; Second China War 1857-60; Ashantee 1873-74 (C.Shrimpton, Py Offr 1 Cl H.M.S. Victor Eml 1873-74); Royal Naval Long Service and Good Conduct, V.R. (Cs Shrimpton Boatsn Mate H.M.S. Hector 20 Ys). Gnerally very fine but with a few contact marks. (4)

  • Petty Officer Charles Scrimpton was born at Portsmouth on 29 March 1836. He joined the service as Boy 2nd Class abord H.M.S.Blenheim on 1 July 1851, participating in the Baltic Campaign and remaining in the same vessel unit June 1856. Served aboard H.M.S.Tribune from June 1856 until 16 August 1858 when he was discarged from the service whilst at Hong Kong, "having completed his apprenticeship as an Ordinary Seaman."He rejoined the Navy in August 1859 aboard H.M.S.Trafalgar as an A.B., advanced direct to Petty Officer status ( Captain Mizzen Top) in April 1860 prior to being "paid off" in September 1861. Served aboard H.M.S. Victor Emmanuel from 27 November 1873 until 29 May 1874 as a Bosun's Mate, was drafted to H.M.S.Hector in June 1874 and was sent to ashore as a pensioner on 7 May 1875, having earned his LSGC medal as a Bosun's Mate on 15 April 1875.
