2 volumes. 8vo (221 x 129 mm). [xii], 438; vii, 469 pp. With portrait frontispiece and large folding map. Contemporary quarter calf rebacked, raised bands, morocco spine labels stamped in gilt. Some light soiling to map with repair to verso, light fingersoiling to titles and margins, minor spotting to frontis, boards scuffed.
Provenance: Athenaeum, North Devon, Barnstable (inkstamps to titles and final leaves).

FIRST EDITION. Volume one describes Simpson's voyages to Vancouver, Sitka, San Francisco, Monterey, Santa Barbara, and Hawaii. Volume two describes his journey across Siberia and Russia to St. Petersburg. Hill 1572; Howes S495; Sabin 81343.
