Original oil on canvas, Five Red-Breasted Geese Flying, 500 x 755 mm, signed ("Peter Scott") lower right and dated 1936. 4" tear at top of canvas with 1" tear below, canvas weak in a few other spots.
An important wildlife painter, Sir Peter Scott was also a noted ornithologist, sportsman, and conservationist. He was a founder of the World Wide Fund for Nature, as well as of several bird sanctuaries in Britain. A prolific author and illustrator, his final work was the three volume Travel Diaries of a Naturalist (19837). (See his entry in ODNB.)
