Stumpy Brown was a pioneering artist from the Mangkaya Community and sister to the celebrated Aboriginal artist Rover Thomas. Her work emphasized the land and culture of her country, the Canning Stock Route in the Great Sandy Desert of West Australia.
Stumpy Brown depicted waterholes and bush foods by various circular patterns with bright and vivid colors.
Stumpy Brown is represented in major Australian museums and private collections.
