Deep red cross with a white enamel circle and ornate K at center. Front side includes portrait of Queen Kapiolani with the phrase KULIA I KANUU (strive for the summit). Original ribbon with red and yellow stripes, the Hawaiian royal colors. Only 59 were issued to both men and women. It was last conferred in 1892 and is very rarely offered.
The Royal Order of the Crown of Hawaii (Hawaii Ke Kalaunu e Hookanaka): founded by King Kamehameha III as the Order of the Crown and Cross in July 1848. Revived and expanded by King Kalakaua I on 12th September 1882 "for the recompense of distinguished merit and services rendered to the state or the sovereign".
