The inventory number corresponds to an entry in the London Fabergé ledgers for a gold bonbonniere with moss agate purchased by Princess Hatzfeldt on November 16, 1910 for £53. Our thanks to Tatiana Fabergé for providing this research.

Princess Hatzfeldt (1862-1928) was born Clara Prentice in California and adopted into the family of railroad tycoon Collis P. Huntington (1820-1900). She married Prince Francis von Hatzfeldt-Wildenburg in 1889 and having inherited a considerable fortune, acquired over 50 pieces of Fabergé between 1907 and 1916. The Princess established herself in English society and became a frequent dinner guest of Edward VII.
