2007 Bimota DB5
Frame no. ZESD599216R000010
Bimota SpA is a small custom and limited-edition production motorcycle builder founded by three partners, Valerio Bianchi, Giuseppe Morri and Massimo Tamburini in 1973, in the east coast town of Rimini, Italy. Its reputation was soon created by building a few radically stylish yet effective race worthy, bespoke motorcycles using the best quality components which the company mostly bought in.

A press release from Bimota North America dated December 11, 2006 announced that Shane Turpin had joined the exclusive importer as National Sales Manager and that further he would be "racing a factory-prepared Bimota DB5." It went further, that "...Mr. Turpin's very successful racing career includes four National Championship titles, nine regional titles, and ten US Track Records currently standing."

The DB5 is a limited production Bimota frame and bodywork with a DS 1000 2-valve, twin-plug, belt-drive 992cc, 90-degree, air-cooled v-twin motor (92hp at 8,500rpm) and 6-speed gearbox installed, right out of the Ducati Multistrada 1000. Top quality Ohlins suspension front and back, Brembo brakes and Magneti Marelli fuel injection are all part of the package, wrapped by a hand crafted chrome molybdenum steel tube frame. Dry weight is just under 400lb. Designed by Sergio Robbiano it was the first truly new bike from Bimota after its fresh start in 2000. The prototype was exhibited at the Munich Motorcycle Show in September 2004 and was given the "most beautiful bike at the show" award. Production began in 2005.

This is the Turpin bike, set-up and safety wired for production class racing, but never run except for a few demonstration laps. It has reportedly only about 270 miles on the odometer. The seller reports that it is still a new bike, and is ready to ride away as is. It is fitted with new Michelin Pilots, a slipper clutch, NCR clutch and countershaft covers, custom Termignoni exhaust system, GP gear shift (stock shifter comes with the bike), new ECU mapping, and comes with a cover and a paddock stand.
