1965 Harley-Davidson FL
Engine no. 65FL7903
This orange-and-white FL marks an end and a beginning for Harley-Davidson, and it is perhaps the Pierce museum's most beloved machine. Model year 1965 marked the final production run for the famous Panhead V-twin, which for 18 years had been The Motor Company's flagship powerplant. It was also the first year that an electric starter was fitted, leading to the famous Electra Glide model name, still in the Harley-Davidson catalog a half-century later. This particular Electra Glide holds a special place for the Pierce family as it was Wayne "Pappy" Pierce's personal touring bike.
