1958 Harley-Davidson FLH
Engine no. 58FLH6770
Wayne Pierce's eye for acquiring significant models from Harley-Davidson's development is showcased with this 1958 Duo-Glide, so named because it was the first year that Milwaukee's touring 1200 was equipped with both telescopic front forks and a swingarm rear suspension. This year also saw the arrival of a hydraulically activated rear drum brake. The H in the FLH model designation stood for high performance, as the engine benefitted from higher-compression cylinder heads and more aggressive camshaft profiles.
For many years, this particular Duo-Glide held pride-of-place in the museum, displayed in a diorama of Pappy Pierce's workspace, as shown in the photo, as if the bike had just been ridden in for routine maintenance and a tune-up.
