Very Fine Star Ruby Cabochon
Burma
This lovely oval cabochon red ruby displays a 6-rayed star that is evident to the unaided eye. Decidedly red in hue– almost blood red—which is quite unusual for star rubies, as it is the "silk" that causes stars to form which tends to make the color milky. The body of the stone is unusually transparent for such a sharp star. At just under ten carats, this stone is desirable for its size, color, quality of asterism and proportions making a desirable gem for the knowledgable collector.
Weighing approximately 9.24 ct and measuring 12.5 x 10.5 x 5.5 mm

Footnotes

  • Accompanied by a GRS Gem Research Swisslab report number GRS2007-110233T dated November 23, 2007 stating that the 9.28 carats natural star ruby weighing 9.28 carats shows no indications of thermal treatment.

Provenance: Exhibited in 2010 at the Gemological Institute of America, Carlsbad, California
