8vo (187 x 120 mm). viii, 151 pp. 6 wood-engraved plates, including frontispiece. Large folding lithographed map. Original blue cloth, pictorially stamped in black and gilt. Repaired closed tear to map, hinges weak, some darkening and rubbing to cloth, a little damp-wrinkling to lower cover.
Provenance: Macleod (ownership inscription dated 1876).

RARE FIRST EDITION. The author was a retired Lieutenant in the Royal Navy when he agreed to accompany Allen Young on his expedition to find further record of Franklin's expedition.
