8vo (221 x 136 mm). [2], xxi, [1], 232 pp. Half-title. With 4 lithographed plates (incl. 2 chromolithographed and 1 folding panorama); large folding map. Original blue cloth, spine gilt-lettered, edges untrimmed. Two old stub repairs to map, hinges cracked, wear to binding at spine and corners.
Provenance: Thomas Bacon (presentation inscription, armorial bookplate); Andrew Taylor (bookplate).

FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, boldly inscribed on the front free endpaper: "From the Author to Revd T. Bacon." Inglefield commanded Lady Franklin's private steamer Isabel for this expedition. He explored Smith Sound for the first time since it had been named by William Baffin and on his return was awarded the gold medal of the Royal Geographical Society.
