FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY FROM THE DEDICATEE. Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "Mrs. Edgar with Lady Franklin's affectionate regards / Febry 6, 1856." Lady Franklin herself sponsored seven expeditions to find her husband or his records and supported several others. As such, she was probably the single-most influential individual to promote Arctic exploration in the nineteenth century. This copy of the poem has several manuscript corrections to single words in pencil.
