Folio (370 x 275 mm). 8 pp. Comprising letterpress title and double column text in French and English. 10 tinted lithographs by Charles Hague after drawings by W.H. Browne on 7 sheets, occasionally finished with hand-coloring. Original cloth lettered and decorated in blind and gilt on front cover. Plates spotted, binding faded and soiled with fraying to extremities.
Provenance: Ernest Shackleton (presentation inscription).

FIRST EDITION. ERNEST SHACKLETON'S COPY, with inscription to him by Cambell MacKellar. MacKellar was a supporter of the British Antarctic Expedition (1907-09), and Shackleton named Mt. MacKellar after him. The first of the three Franklin search view books, the others being by Cresswell and May. Lieut. Browne was an officer on this fourth expedition in search of Sir John Franklin since his disappearance in 1845. A later print of Sebastion Cabot with an inscription by MacKellar is laid in.
