First vol with lithographed frontispiece and 2 folding hand-colored maps; Sequel with color map frontispiece and folding facsimile plate (in both second part of vol 1 and in separate vol). Original blue cloth lettered in gilt, gilt device on covers. Light spotting at ends, hinges cracked on vol 2, light shelfwear, mild darkening to spines.
Provenance: James Worsfold (presentation inscription in Sequel).
SECOND EDITION OF FIRST PART; SEQUEL FIRST EDITION AND PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed on the front free endpaper: "To my friend Jas. Worsfold Esq / from John Brown 9/1/61." The Sequel is devoted to the M'Clintock expedition and is quite rare as a separate pamphlet as here. The content is present also as the second part of the first volume. Cf. Hill 195; Sabin 8517.
