In 1967 Heinz Mack published a photograph of a wheel from his Jaguar in his book Mackazin. The image that he used is reproduced on the current lot, which belongs to a series of unique works which formed the basis for the artist's 1969 one-man show Mini-Mack at the Galerie Reckermann in Cologne.
Mack transferred various images from Mackazin on to metal sheets, using an etching technique to create what were in effect printing plates. A chromed finish was then applied to the plates, transforming them from the purely functional to the undeniably aesthetic; metallic, shimmering and filled with the sense of dynamic motion typical of the work of Mack.
