1974 Citroen 2CV Van
Chassis no. 7830947
Ranking alongside the Volkswagen Beetle, Mini and Land Rover as one of the classic mass-produced cars of the post-war era, Citroen's quirky 2CV debuted in 1949. Intended to provide basic transport in a period of post-war austerity, the 2CV outlived its humble beginnings, going on to attain cult status as the favoured car of the environmentally-concerned motorist. Although the original 375cc air-cooled flat-twin engine grew, eventually, to 602cc, the 2CV's performance remained modest at around 110km/h flat-out, not that that concerned the majority of its devotees for whom the roomy interior, full-length sunroof and frugal fuel consumption were of far greater importance. The 2CV was built in civilian, military and commercial versions, the latter - a small delivery van - being known as the 'Fourgonette', which was first seen in 1951. By the time production ceased in 1990 more than 5 million 2CVs of all types had been made.
A 1974 model made in late 1973, the Fourgonette offered here is a Type AZU-B with the 435cc engine. This particular vehicle was ordered by the French Postal Service (La Poste), hence the yellow livery: reference 'AC311' on the Citroën colour chart. These vans were ordered with some special features, such as the tubular front bumper. Mechanically very healthy, the vehicle has been repainted both inside and out. Offered with French registration papers, it has had only two owners since La Poste and is described as in generally very good condition.
