A rare cider glass inscribed 'No Excise', circa 1763
The lipped ogee bowl engraved with a spreading apple tree bearing five apples between leaves, the reverse with two barrels beneath the slogan 'NO EXCISE', on a double series opaque twist stem with a multi-ply corkscrew encircled by a thirteen-ply spiral band, 15.5cm high

    The Cider Act of 1763 led to widespread protests in Britain and especially in the Colonies. The repeal of the tax in July 1766 was celebrated throughout the country. A creamware teapot commemorating the Cider Act was sold by Bonhams in Oxford, 16 January 2013, lot 27
