Mammal Hair in Baltic Amber
Eocene
Samland Peninsula, Russia

Remains of vertebrates in amber are exceptionally rare. This large clump of excellently preserved mammal hair most likely formed when an animal brushed up against a tree, leaving the hair specimen stuck in resin, 40 million years ago. Amber measures 1 ½ x 1 1/2in
