Large Ant Wrapped in Spider Web
Eocene
Samland Peninsula, Russia

Forty million years ago, a large ant was trapped in a spider web, wrapped up by the capturing spider and fell into the sticky resin of the Baltic amber pine forest. Entombed in crystal golden amber, the ant is now seen perfectly preserved in its tightly constructed "embalming cloths." Length of amber measures 1in; Ant measures 1/8in
