Two Chinese famille rose milk jugs
18th century
One jug delicately enamelled in puce and iron-red on the rounded body with a bouquet of rose, aster and other tiny blossoms, flanked by two further bouquets and scattered single blossoms, 13.2cm high, the other enamelled with a butterfly resting on a single floral spray enclosed within entwined wreathes of foliate roses and puce leaves, beneath a green foliate band at the rim, the handle moulded with a gilt ruyi head terminals linked by a row of beading, 11.4cm high; together with a Chinese cup and saucer enamelled with leaf-shaped cartouches containing floral sprays in grisaille and gilt alternating with medallions containing stylised dragons reserved on a blue-ground, all reserved on a ruby-ground, the cup with a further peony spray in the well, the saucer 11.5cm diam.   • Labels: the taller jug with loose label RRJC C50 stuck on top of a label from the George Eumorfopoulos Collection, no.B.139. The cup and saucer with RRJC 144, and the saucer also with Dickinson, 108, Wigmore Street, London 21407.
