The porcelain Qianlong, the mounts later European
Each side moulded with three lobed cartouches, the larger cartouches each delicately enamelled, one with a vivid scene of a European figure galloping on a horse with hounds in full cry over the fields of a farmer similarly European in style against a background of Chinese-style moon-gate and pagodas amongst canals, the reverse with another European figure on horseback accompanied by a manservant with a falcon while another huntsman aims his rifle in the distance, the smaller upper cartouches each with a butterfly above a floral spray, and the narrow lower cartouches each with a delicate landscape scene, all against a moulded dotted ground enamelled with stylised floral scrolls, the covers similarly decorated with floral sprays in cartouches and each surmounted by a Buddhist lion, the vases mounted with gilt bronze feet with floral swags and ornate foliate handles issuing bunches of grapes. The taller 56.5cm high (4).
