Footnotes

  • Between August and October 1830, Princess Victoria and her mother, the Duchess of Kent, visited Great Malvern in order to take the waters. During their stay, a number of miniature plates were produced by the Chamberlain factory at nearby Worcester. Although their purpose is uncertain, it seems likely that they were made to be given as gifts by the Princess. For a similar plate see John Sandon, Worcester Porcelain at Cheekwood (2008), p 172. Another was sold in these rooms on 2 March 1994, lot 369.
