Classic Black Opal--"The Black Prince"
Lightning Ridge, New South Wales, Australia
Many dark gray opals are incorrectly called "black opals". The present opal is one of these rare, true black gems. A rich and unique floral pattern play-of-color graces the surface, hovering like a hologram. Predominating in true reds with secondary splashes of orange, yellow, green and electric blue, with midnight black potch to the reverse. This is an important, gem-quality, named opal of considerable size, worthy of consideration by the most serious collector.
