White Crystal Opal, Rhodochrosite and Gold Flower Study--"UME"--The Japanese Plum Flower

The plum blossom, long a beloved subject in East Asian art, has been given a lapidary interpretaion in this precious gemstone sculpture. Ten white blossoms are carved of Coober Pedy, Australian white opal, the pink branch is formed of twenty-one carved Argentinian rhodochrosite flowers and buds. The vase is carved of Russian black obsidian and the base as well, mounted with over 300 grams (9 ozt) of 18K yellow gold. Signed with monogram EB for Emil Becker and M.
