Actually the split of a small ironstone nodule, this rarity is known in the mineral hobby as a "Yowah nut" due to the locality of its find and overall shape. The present example is a book-matched split having vivid broad flash or chaff pattern play-of-color with flashes of orange and red intermingled with blue and green within the fine crystal opal. Mounted in 18K yellow gold, with shepherd's crook ear wires, height of opal nodule approximately 27.0 mm.
