Two Opal Egg-form Carvings
Andes Mountains, Peru
Andean opal which possesses such strong hues is rarely available in the present market. These two egg-form carvings were obtained in the early 1990s when the first discoveries of this material began reaching the United States market. The first egg, carved of deep rose-pink opal exhibiting some brown matrix, height 2 in; the second egg, carved of rich blue Andean opal, exhibiting brown matrix on the reverse side, height 2 1/4in.
