Rare Nevada Opal Carving of an Octopus
Virgin Valley, Denio, Nevada
By Ronald Stevens
Evoking frothing waves of the sea, a jelly-like specimen of Nevada opal was utilized in this carving depicting an octopus. Smoky brown hues intermingle with midnight blue to light gray and a splash of orange at the edge--it is rare to see a carving made of this precious material.
