An ebony and ivory inlaid sewing box
Possibly Anglo-Indian, the mahogany box of rectangular form with ivory and ebony chevron banding to the edges, profusely ivory inlaid with stylised foliate patterns, the front of the box with opposing birds, the cover inlaid with 'R.L.ROPER, A.M.I,MECH.E', opening to reveal a decorated and fitted interior, with four of the compartments behind inlaid doors, with further compartment below a removable tray, the brass-bound box with carrying handles to the sides, 45.5cm wide x 30cm deep x 17cm high, (17.5in wide x 11.5in deep x 6.5in high)
