A Victorian silver presentation five piece tea and coffee service

Of pedestal vase form, the scroll engraved body with festoons of fruit between, bead border, leaf capped and chased handles, raised on embossed and chased acanthus leaf feet, fruit finials, monogrammed, the matching oval tray with mask head and scroll handles, inscribed, oak cased, height of coffee pot 28cm, length of tray 72cm, weight approximately 198oz.

  • Inscribed "Presented, by, the Workpeople of Wm. Williams & Co. of, Upper Forest and Worcester Iron, Steel & Tin Plate Works, to Miss Margaret F. Williams, on the occasion of her marriage, as a token of their high respect & esteem, Morriston, April 14th 1888."

    The Upper Forest and Worcester Steel and Tinplate Works of Morriston, Swansea, South Wales began in 1845, the works were commenced by William Hallam, on the site of a gist mill.

    In 1868 The Worcester Works were opened; the company was formed by William Williams of Maes-y-gwernen Hall, Llangyfelach and absorbed the Upper Forest Works.

    The company changed hands many times, becoming Nationalised in 1951, production ceased in 1958 and the 20 acre site was subsequently cleared.
